Local heroes!
This is one of several firefighting aerial tankers that flew at low level over our home yesterday. They were called out to a fire near Mount Gambier's Blue Lake and Valley Lake area and were on the go all day from dawn to dusk as they flew between the fire and the local airport, apart from one gap where they had to stop operations because of some unthinking local photographers using drones! They did a magnificent job with precision flying in and around the steep crater walls, and I am pleased to say it is all under total control now.
The aircraft is an Air Tractor (AT) 802F, specifically designed for fighting bushfires, capable of delivering around 3100 litres at a time.
I think these pilots are amazing, and are real Aussie heroes.
Happy Australia Day - and Happy Wing Wednesday!
