Piste ferme, piste closed
It always makes me laugh when I see these flimsy fences high up on the mountainside telling you that the piste is shut or not to go beyond for there’s a sudden sharp drop beyond. How can such a fence physically stop one?! I guess it’s advice and or trust that no one would go beyond ( though not infrequently you see someone take off down a closed piste and sometimes off the side of the mountain too). Personally I’m way too scared to even think of going off bounds as the potential consequences are way too serious and this was true before we saw a helicopter which we later that evening discovered was Michael Schumacher’s helicopter airlift him off the mountainside. Let me clarify that we only saw the helicopter ( there were 2 or 3 that day hovering around) from a distance and did not see any of the rescue, merely remember that the helicopter was hovering for a long time before flying off.
On that somber note thanks for stopping and HFF
