Drax Power Station
Actually, Drax Power Station and the huge glass house of Perfectly Fresh Limited who are “vertical” growers of pea shoots, sorrel and watercress. I have never seen such a vast expanse of under-glass growing space. I’m guessing, but I wonder if the firm uses waste hot water from the power station to heat the glass houses? Otherwise, I can’t imagine what their heating bill would be in winter.
Drax Power Station runs on wood chips that we import from around the world, Canada being the main source, the chips are brought to the U.K. in ships and then several trains a day transport the fuel chips to Drax, and this whole operation is supposed to be green and environmentally friendly! Maybe I’m missing something but cutting down trees and burning heavy oil in ships and trains doesn’t sound that eco-friendly to me. Still, we’ve got to keep our gadgets charged somehow.
I really wanted to correct the wonky perspective on this picture, that sloping smoke stack is very troubling, but the harder I tried the more deformed the rest of the image became so here it is - wonky chimney and all!
