Phantom of the forest: Great Grey Owl
This flight shot is a departure from the norm. Rather than trying to freeze the flight action and wing position, I took advantage of the dim lighting as well as the setting and the shadow areas, and used a slow shutter speed to make the shots. I hope to capture the wing blur.
Lucky for me, the owl took flight first toward my direction before it banked right and disappeared into the depths of the woods.
I feel that the wings motion blur and intent stare here add a certain mystique to this phantom of the forest.
Taken on: Nov., Edmonton north,
400mm@ 4.5; 1/250;
Lightroom 6.0
