A Barred Owl portrait
The shot was taken from a distance with a telephoto lens. I'd climbed the slope to gain a good vantage point and managed to shoot through gaps in the foliage. The image is uncropped.
As it was an overcast day and a rain storm was imminent, there was not much light in the forest, I shot wide open using slow shutter speed. I like the way the wide aperture had blurred the leaves on the trees to create a nice background bokeh, and there was just adequate light to get a hint of catchlight to add some details to the eyes.
Taken on: June 2023, Edmonton, Alberta.
Nikon D500 w/ 500f4G @ f4; 1/160; -0.77EV; ISO2000
Lightroom 6.0. Sizing and image resolution: 100dpi
