Prelude to a stealthy flight

A young Great-horned Owl tried out its wings.

 

We went to the trail in late afternoon and located the three owlets that had recently fledged.* As it was getting dark, the owlets appeared to be more active. They had begun to take short flight but continued to be fed by the parents. We were with them only for a short period of time and then left them alone, so that we did not put pressure on them as well as the parents feeding them.
