This is Fort Jefferson, a massive but unfinished coastal fortress built by the U.S. in the Dry Tortugas. It is the largest brick masonry structure in the Americas. It is easily reachable on day tours from Key West, Florida. The exotic fort was abandoned long ago and is now a U.S. National Park. Day tours usually include a ranger led visit to the fort, lunch and time to swim or snorkel around the island. Bring your own drinking water.
