Shamalgan VL80S-2321 with a mixed freight
On the outskirts of Almaty, just before the village of Shamalgan you can view trains in a countryside setting without having to drive for hours and hours. Here VL80S-2321 passes with a mixed freight bound for Almaty.
Almaty has one electrified mainline into the city coming from the west as well as an unelectrified line from the North. This line is a good place to see the triple section VL80's due to the gradients some trains are hauled by them on the line from Shu. In other cities such as Astana and Karaganda they are rare to see.
VL80S-2321B is essentially half a loco paired with another full loco. The loco was built in 1989 in Russia and is based at TChE-32 Arys.
