1992 Island Air Dornier 228-201 N275MC
1992 Island Air Dornier 228-201
N275MC (MSN 8100) delivered new to Midway Commuter December 1986. This aircraft (along with N256MC) went to Island Air July 1992 for a short-term lease. According to a source they were flown for less than a year in a trial period -- in the end, they were returned. They arrived at a time when Aloha Airlines had rebranded their subsidiary commuter airline "Aloha Island Air" to simply "Island Air". They were featured in television commercials and other advertisements.
Operational challenges faced with the Dornier included high maintenance costs (expensive parts). Former First Officers recalled having to manually rotate the propellers for a number of cycles after shutting down to cool the engines.
Scanned from a postcard, circa 1992.
