Northland - Bay of Islands

An irregular coastline lapped by the Pacific Ocean with a favourable climate and its 150 islands around the water which are full of marine wildlife, make the Bay of Islands popular for many activities including deep-sea fishing, water sports, scenic flights, paragliding and horse trekking. From Paihia, you can try a short walk to Waitangi Treaty Grounds, one of the most important place in New Zealand, where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840 (credit to Waitangi National Trust and DK Eyewitness New Zealand).
