Tule (pronounced Too-lee) Elk are endemic to California and are the smallest of the Elk species. Bulls typically stand at 5 ft (1.5 mts) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 400-700 lbs (181-318 kg), females are smaller averaging 4.5 ft (1.36 mts) at the shoulder and ranging from 350-425 lbs (160-193 kg). Only male Elk (bulls) have antlers, which are shed and regrown every year. The numbers of points (spikes) on the antler denote the maturity of the bull - Mature bulls (9.5-12.5 yrs) average 6x6 points.
