The Stages of Bookbinding
Books in various stages of binding. From left to right, back row to front:
1. "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. "Sick" book from library sale, disbound in preparation for rebinding.
2. "Healing Handbook" by Tara Ward. Brand new coil bound book, re-sewn by oversewing on recessed cords using the method described at: www.alvenh.com/misc/projects/bookbinding/overcastsewing/
3. "Creative Dreaming" by Patricia Garfield. 1974 hardcover edition from a local library sale, stripped down for rebinding. With cover boards laced-on and Oxford hollow on spine with false raised bands, this book awaits leather covering.
4. "The Christmas Almanack" by Patricia and Gerrard Del Rey. Covered in hand-dyed full calf leather and lined with marbled paper on the inside covers, book awaits finishing (blind tooling and gilding). This particular design is in the style of Paul Tronson, Master Bookbinder.
5. The "Little Wolf" copy of Shakespeare's 1623 first folio. Finished with blind tooling on front and back covers in a Cambridge paneled design and gilt spine with title. For details, check out:
