Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze

Academy of Florence Art Gallery holding the infamous statue of David created by Michelangelo between 1501 and 1504 when he was just 26! Depicting the biblical hero, David, eyeing his adversary Goliath before battle. This was the first time David was portrayed before the battle. Many other famous sculptures had depicted David after the battle standing over Goliath. This sculpture can be talked about for days, but one of the striking things is Davids hands and feet. They are proportionally very large in comparison to his muscular body. One interpretation of this is the symbolization of David still growing into his full form, signifying his youth and him coming into his own.

Michelangelo's David is widely regarded as one of the, if not the, greatest works of all time and is truly humbling to see in person.
