La maison dite de Benoît doit son nom à la famille Benoît, originaire de Montauban et installée à Rodez au XVème siècle, héritière de l'édifice en 1861.
Du grès
Les murs rouges de la bâtisse contrastent avec ceux de la placette. Ici, les gargouilles sont à portée de main… C’est fascinant ! De ce côté-ci, en comparaison avec le côté place d’Estaing, la taille imposante de la bâtisse saute aux yeux. En se déplaçant au fond de la cour, le clocher de la cathédrale apparaît dans le ciel, au-dessus de la tour de la maison de Benoit.
Un style gothique
Cet ancien hôtel a été construit au 16e siècle pour le chanoine Jean Pouget, proche de l’évêque François d’Estaing. A l’époque, d’importants travaux ont été entrepris pour regrouper cet ensemble d’habitations jusqu’alors juxtaposées. La bâtisse s’étend aujourd’hui de la place d’Estaing à l’angle de la rue Bosc. Le style gothique flamboyant de la maison est reconnaissable à plusieurs reprises :
-le passage voûté d’accès à la cour,
-des gargouilles gothiques,
-des fenêtres à croisées moulurées.

The so-called Benoît's house owes its name to the Benoît family, originally from Montauban and settled in Rodez in the 15th century, heirs to the building in 1861.
Sandstone
The red walls of the building contrast with those of the small square. Here, the gargoyles are within reach... It's fascinating! From this side, in comparison with the Place d'Estaing side, the imposing size of the building is obvious. Moving to the back of the courtyard, the bell tower of the cathedral appears in the sky, above the tower of Benoît's house.
A Gothic style
This former hotel was built in the 16th century for Canon Jean Pouget, close to Bishop François d'Estaing. At the time, major work was undertaken to regroup this group of dwellings that had previously been juxtaposed. The building now extends from Place d’Estaing to the corner of Rue Bosc. The flamboyant Gothic style of the house is recognizable in several ways:
- the vaulted passageway leading to the courtyard,
- Gothic gargoyles,
- molded cross-windows.
