Iowa Northern train CRWA-12 brings its hoppers and tank cars north alongside U.S. Route 218 outside La Porte City. The morning's road traffic was minimal to none, so we paced the train for a little bit before continuing north to Minnesota. Its hard to say how much longer the IANR's unique locomotives and shortline-quality service will last with CN's acquisition looming on the horizon. In a world of homogenized equipment, the Iowa Northern has remained one of few outliers. For now, they'll continue to sing a traveling song, their diesel engine and horn singing across the Iowan countryside.
