Monet was fascinated by optical realism and painted multiple (over thirty) canvases of the façade of Rouen Cathedral and his famous haystacks as an exploration of the properties of ever-changing light and the perception of light by the human eye.
It is amazing to witness the completely different personalities which these two barns possess depending upon their lighting.
