20180122_Canadian_ Geese

This is a flock of Canadian Geese (Branta canadensis) that were walking along side this retention pond. They seemed to be feeding on the grass along the edge of the pond, until I spooked them.

Canadian Geese typically feed on plant material including aquatic plants, stems and shoots of grasses, sedges, seeds and berries. Canadian Geese forages mostly by grazing while walking on land; also feeds in water, submerging head and neck, sometimes up-ending. Feeds in flocks at most seasons.

Canadian Geese are fairly common to this area in all seasons. Also, retention ponds, lakes, bays, marshes, and fields are typical habitats for the Canadian Goose, depending on the location.
