The last Sussex Bus to Uckfield wasn't!
The last ever Sussex Bus departure on the 31 to Uckfield on 30 September, with Dennis Trident/Alexander MSV 617 from the parent Heritage fleet being given the honour, seen here in Haywards Heath in rapidly fading light. The following day would see Compass Bus put brand new Enviro200s on the route, following their purchase of Sussex Bus's services.
MSV had originally been X317 NNO, new to Selkent as TA317 and latterly 17317. It was one of a pair bought for schools work prior to Countryliner going bust and Sussex Bus being set-up. Both MSV and the other one (TFK 696) would often deputise as necessary and in the early days of the 40X (when it avoided the low bridge) would frequently see them on that service, mainly during school holidays when presumably the regular buses were off being serviced.
