Rescue Train

Just after sunrise, Maine Northern Railway Train 520-17 heads to Madawaska to rescue Train 530-16, during a blizzard. Train 530-16 had tied down at Madawaska, after not being able to make it back to Fort Kent the night before, after loosing a unit.

The week of 2/17/2025, MNR was slammed with storm after storm, with two previous storms dropping 2-4 feet in spots. From 2/16-17/25 MNR got hit with a blizzard which dropped an additional 3 feet of snow.

With the regulator at Fort Kent down for repairs, NBSR's Jordan Spreader headed to Saint John in preparation for an ice storm, and the Russell plow at Oakfield, MNR 520 had to fend for itself.

Before rescuing 530, the crew would work with a contractor who had a loader, as well as the section foreman armed with a backhoe, to pull and clean tracks inside the paper mill.
