Chechem Ha Cave

William Morales' dog was chasing a gibnut on property in 1989, when the dog “vanished" into the rock wall. Morales found it was a cave mouth and was a Mayan sacred cave and one of the largest collections of Maya pottery ever discovered. This was Che Chem Ha (Cave of Poisonwood Water). The Morales' family take small numbers of tours through the 800m cave and tunnels using ladders to access open areas and niches. It took us 1/2 hour walking through forest to access the grilled entrance (with dogs). Limited numbers (no more than 8 people, once or twice a day, book ahead or there won’t be anyone there). Not busy (we were alone).
