Burrow Mump
One of the high points on the Somerset Levels. Given to the National Trust after the 2nd WW to remember the people men & women of Somerset who died in the war. Earliest records show that the Romans occupied the hill & in AD879 King Alfred fortified it to protect the parrot & Tone from the Danes. @ later Norman castle was replaced by a chapel which was partly destroyed in the Civil War After the Battle of Langport. The existinremains come from the restoration works done in 1730 & 90
