Elephant Trunk SHO

Here is the completed IC 1396 Elephant Trunk Nebula. This region of gas and dust is located 2400 light years away in the constellation Cepheus. The region was discovered to be an active star forming region back in 2003 with stars as young as 100,000 years old. This is my first completed DSO project since moving to England and despite battling streetlights (that thankfully turn off at around 1am) and the shortening nights, the weather has been fairly cooperative at night lately.

Equipment: Orion ED80, Skyview Pro mount, ASI1600MM Pro, Astrodon Ha/Oiii/Sii filters

Data:

51 x 300sec Ha 5nm, Gain 300, -30C

35 x 300sec Oiii 3nm, Gain 300, -30C
