Black Thunder Redux
Around Christmas time in 2023, I noticed someone on Instagram who had bought Model Team set 5542 Black Thunder en wanted to share a photo of this purchase with the rest of the world. Nowadays I think Model Team is one of the most fascinating themes from the 1990s, because it strongly reminds me of modern day Creator sets (which currently is my favorite theme). For that reason, this Instagram post evoked a lot of nostalgia. It also got me thinking about what the 5542 would look like with modern building techniques and new parts that get produced today. Seemed like a new building challenge was at hand, so I started putting together my remake at the start of January 2024. However, after a while, I found out that I needed parts that would be introduced in sets released in March. Until then, I had other projects to keep me occupied. In the mean time I had also purchased the original set, so that when I would finish my version, I could compare the two. It wasn't until after the March Lowlug meeting in Lelystad that I continued my project and now that my Black Thunder Redux is finally finished, I'm curious: Which one do you like better? The old version or the new one? Please let me know.
