Paradise Under Glass

Lately there have been plenty of politics involving national parks, nature centers, conservatories, and so many nature based exhibits that it's overwhelming to keep up with every news release. I learned today that the head of Lincoln Park's Park District has been more than willing to fund the Zoo's needs but neglects to help the Conservatory.

I caught wind from a caretaker that they are short staffed, their volunteers are limited to weekends, other conservatories or nurseries are only offering seedlings instead of young plants. The Lincoln Park Conservatory holds plenty of memories for me, and aside from my story, the building holds a lot of rich history. Brought into the area during the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, the Conservatory offered an experience like no other in it's time. Mixing the industrial revolution with nature became fairly common at the start of the 20th century. Though the Conservatory stands tall to this day, there may come a time where we may lose it.

The Lincoln Park Conservatory is open 9am to 5pm almost every day of the year, and it's free. Their only request is for a donation at the entry way. On your next visit, spare a dollar or two to allow for the growth and well-being of a paradise under glass.
