2/7th King's Liverpool Regiment Last Leave in L'pool Aug 17/1916 - FF (R5_02270)
Flickr Friday - Postcard - 16 Feb 2024.
The photo on the postcard on the left was taken professional and is of my grandfather (William) leading his company to the railway station in Liverpool, to then travel on to France during the First World War.
Similar to emails and text messages today, postcards were the means by which my grandparents communicated during my grandfather's time away.
My grandmother (Dorothy) was an avid collector of postcards and amateur photographer. Fortunately I have inherited this priceless collection of postcards of my grandfather's time during the First World War.
My poor grandmother, and the rest of the family plus all families that had men fighting in France, must have had a torrid time during WWI. Fortunately my grandfather and his brother returned with each being awarded the Military Cross.
My grandfather was very fortunate as he was wounded by a bullet that lodged in his groin ... a few inches either way I might not have existed!!
