Bultaco Metralla & Bultaco Shrapnel

Bultaco Metralla & Bultaco Shrapnel

The Bultaco Metralla was a motorcycle touring model manufactured by Bultaco between 1962 and 1979. Throughout its commercial life, several versions were produced, all with the same general characteristics: air-cooled single-cylinder two-cycle engine (initially of 200 cc and, since 1966, 250 cc), single cradle frame and conventional front fork and telescopic shock absorbers behind. As for the brakes, all the versions had drum except the last, which was equipped with disc brakes.

Among the different manufactured versions, the most successful was the second, launched in 1966 with the name of Mk2 Shrapnel. Qualified at the time as the world's fastest motorcycle series (within the sector of 250 cc), has often been considered the best road bike ever manufactured by Bultaco. With the Shrapnel, the brand covered a sector of growing demand in Spain during the 1960s and 1970s, that of high-performance sports motorcycles, hitherto mainly satisfied by the Montesa Impala and OSSA Sport. During those years, the Shrapnel was one of the motorcycles most appreciated by motorcycle enthusiasts and the mere fact of having one, gave its owner an aura of prestige, good taste and sportsmanship within this group.
