"Polygona c-album" Explore #57

(Flutter by Butterfly)

Flutter by butterfly, flap those wings ....

enjoying summer, you pretty things ....

summer's short, so let it rip ....

so hebe nectar's your favourite sip ....

with your wings shut you disappear ....

a camouflaged magician deserving cheer ....

how I love thee my butterfly friend ....

the reason why yon poem was penned ....

The end.

Original poetry

by Sean.

All lit-up in the glorious sunshine, a lovely [Polygona c-album] comma butterfly displays her beauty.

It's really nice to be able to take a photograph of such a fantastically paterned insect as the orange comma.

I really get excited seeing butterflies fluttering around my garden.

It lifts my heart up, and I really couldn't imagine nature without delightful butterflies enhancing our hot and beautiful summer days.

Info:

The caterpillars of the comma butterfly are disguised to look like bird droppings.

They have a whitish tinge to their top hairs to achieve this.

They usually lay their eggs under stinging nettle's leaves. These only take five days to emerge into tiny caterpillars.

Comma butterflies can hibernate over winter, and because of global warming, etc, are thriving here in the UK.

Whilst resting, they close their wings to reveal brown under-wings with jagged edges, making them look like a dried up leaf.

It's their marvellous camouflage.

Nature knows all the tricks, that's for sure.

Oh yes, their name comes from the white comma looking pattern on each under-wing.

love & peace. ❤️

Everyone!!!
