The Langdon Lights - Dover

No 3 Searchlight emplacement with concrete sandbags providing a safety barrier between the footpath and the beach below.

 

Two miles east of Dover is Langdon Bay where, during WWII, three Coastal Artillery Searchlight Batteries were built into the base of the cliffs.Their purpose was to illuminate shipping in the Channel whilst it was being checked. Unfortunately one has been swept away by a rock fall leaving the other two to slowly decay. Until recently a steep zig-zag path led down to them from the cliff top but, this too, has been destroyed by a land slip.
