Lyle, Pat, Steve and their magnificent romantic team were absolutely unique in world music (and not only jazz) of the late 20th century.

The conjugation with Lyle Mays, a talented Wisconsin keyboard player, was crucial. Metheny's ability and melodic and compositional sense found in Mays a natural terrain of completion and sublimation both from a harmonic and melodic point of view, as well as a very happy artistic partnership, even from a purely technical profile.

Those who were familiar with the music of the Pat Metheny Group in recordings or attending concerts remember this energy and incredible emotional upsurge. It is impossible to express in a word. And this memory will remain with us forever.
