Master & Slave
13002 at Tinsley on 5th November 1978.
Created in 1965 following the need for more powerful shunting locomotives at Tinsley Yard, the Class 13's were basically a combination of 2 Class 08's. In the case of this particular example, the doner locomotives were D4187 (master) and D3697 (slave).
All 3 loco's spent all of their lives at Tinsley and following the end of hump shunting at the yard, they were no longer required. 13002 was the first of the class to be withdrawn in 1983 and was scrapped at Swindon Works in October of that year.
The other two Class 13's remained in service until 1985, with 13003 being the last survivor, being scrapped at Swindon in September 1986.
