Normandy SR2
I love a good spaceship and the Normandy SR2 (from the game Mass Effect 3) is one of my all-time favourite sci-fi ship designs. The in-game ship has some lovely long curves in the body and tapered angles in the wings - perfect shapes to try and reproduce with blocks! Hehe, I knew I was never going to be able to match the angles exactly with LEGO, but I'm pretty pleased with the overall shape. Some parts like the nose needed to be bulked up a bit to make them structurally sound as I knew I was going to be swooshing this thing around the house!
I don't usually put stickers on builds, but I felt like this one needed it and ultimately think it was worth the trouble. Without the big "NORMANDY" on the side it just looked like something was missing, and the stripes along the spine are something I tried a few ways to get with bricks but at the cost of that nice curve. With stickers I got to keep the curve and the colours. And if I was going to do a custom sticker sheet then why not also give it a big UCS style info plate.
1,122 pieces and 51cm (20in) by 25cm (10in); about the same footprint as two 32x32 baseplates.
