King Clown
DCU Green Lantern: Vol. 1 Embrace the Light #5 (5/6)
I zip through the stars following a massive cruiser. The trail isn't very hard to stay on, so I don't need to be too close. I see the cruiser get closer to the atmosphere of Pentaar.
Katma - C'mon Stewart we need to catch that thing.
Katma zooms past me chasing the cruiser.
John - I'm coming, calm down.
This is sector 1682. Her sector. She has never had a problem here. The bounty hunters, warlords, and space criminals all know not to play with her. It must be why she is so anxious to stop this cruiser.
Katma - Stewart, take out the ion core. It'll stop the engines from exhausting.
John - Gotcha.
I fly over to the ion core and begin to remove it. I cut the wires connecting it with the ship and remove it. I look at the core as it begins to glow yellow. I fling it to my left.
John - Kat, it's gonna...
The core blows, hitting my shield construct.
Katma - Stewart are you ok?
John - yeah I think I'm...
I look down to see my ring's glow fade.
Katma - John get to Pentaar, NOW!
I created a rocket on my back and begin to fly to Pentaar at insane speed. I make it about 50 thousand feet above the ground when my construct breaks and I start falling.
Katma - Stewart!
I watch Katma fly to me, creating a shuttle construct around me. The speed starts to decrease as Katma pulls back. The construct crashes against the ground hards nearly breaking but Katma keeps it together.
It slides for another 20 yards before coming to a stop. Katma breaks the construct.
John - What the hell happened? Why did my ring just break?
Katma - I'm so stupid. The cruiser must have expected lanterns. They must have used yellow ion energy.
John - What's the difference between the colors?
Katma - If our rings constructs are connected with yellow ion energy they can malfunction. It's one of the rings only weaknesses.
John - Every damn week there's a new weakness. If you're more scared than brave, if you don't have enough creativity, the thing has the battery life of an iPhone, and now yellow breaks it?
Katma looks at me, then to the rocks on our right. She begins to walk over to them.
John - What are you doing, fly us outta here.
Katma - I can't, my ring doesn't have enough power to get to the nearest United Planet. We're stick here until we fix yours.
John - Terrific. I'm gonna go look for firewood.
I walk off looking for the nearest set of trees. I look for a while before finding a native's house. He looks cautious as I walk up.
John - Hi, umm, You got any fire wood.
Native - Narc fire. Give a no Lantern. No.
I sigh and keep walking. Of course the planet is one who dislikes Green Lanterns.
I finally find some trees. I brake some branches and take them back to Kat who has stones set in a circle already.
Katma - Took you long enough.
I put the branches in the pit then sit on one of the big rocks Kat found.
John - I didn't have a working power ring.
Katma - I'm only teasing.
She blasts the twigs, creating a fire.
John - So, how do we fix my ring.
