Der Rheinkomet ist eine im Jahr 2016 aufgebaute Lichtinstallation auf dem Rheinturm in Düsseldorf. Die Installation umfasst 56 Xenon-Gasentladungslampen, die auf einer Höhe von 195 Metern einzeln bewegt und gesteuert werden können. Sie wurde anlässlich der 70-Jahr-Feier der Gründung des Bundeslandes Nordrhein-Westfalen in Betrieb genommen. Die Installation entwarf der Lichtkünstler Klaus Gendrung im Auftrag der Düsseldorfer Bürgerstiftung DUS-illuminated. Sie enthielt die stärkste gebündelte Lichtabstrahlung weltweit und löste damit den Lichtstrahl am Hotel Luxor in Las Vegas ab.
Zunächst war die Installation nur für das Jubiläum vorgesehen. Wegen des hohen öffentlichen Zuspruchs wird nun daran gearbeitet, sie dauerhaft einzurichten und zu besonderen Anlässen einzusetzen. Es gibt jedoch auch Kritiker, die auf das Problem der Lichtverschmutzung hinweisen.

The Rheinkomet is a light installation built in 2016 on the Rheinturm in Düsseldorf. The installation includes 56 xenon gas discharge lamps that can be individually moved and controlled at a height of 195 meters. It was put into operation on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The installation was designed by the light artist Klaus Gendrung on behalf of the Düsseldorf community foundation DUS-illuminated. It contained the strongest bundled light emission worldwide and thus replaced the light beam at the Hotel Luxor in Las Vegas.
Initially, the installation was only intended for the anniversary. Because of the high public response, work is now being done to set it up permanently and to use it on special occasions. However, there are also critics who point out the problem of light pollution.
