Little history of „Cathedral Hofkirche“:
The Saxon nobility and the population belonged to the Protestant religion. However, their supreme regent, Elector Augustus the Strong, converted to Catholicism. He did this for purely tactical reasons, because that was the only way he could become king in Catholic Poland. Of course, a large Catholic church, the Cathedral Hofkirche, had to be built in his capital, Dresden, as a counterpart to the Protestant Frauenkirche.
