Dreamton
Carnival in Venice, 2024. 430 wooden pieces, 29 x 44 cm. Irregular interlocking cut. Made in Ukraine by Dreamton Puzzles.
This is a modern wooden puzzle ordered from Ukraine, with a computer designed laser cut by Oleh Reshetnikov of Dreamton Puzzles. I'm not sure about the type of wood, whether it's fibrewood or plywood after all, but it is pleasant to the touch and it allows for very fine cutting. The pieces are all different and quite irregular, with a remarkable variation in piece size at times. There are no figurals, which I am perfectly happy with. This was a fun puzzle to do, in a decent size, which nevertheless allowed for finishing in one sitting.
The image is a painting by Ukrainian artist Oleksandra Ekster, which attracted me because of its Venice theme. I like the styling, definitely a different take on a familiar subject. The painting is sufficiently abstract to keep you guessing for quite a while if you choose to work without the benefit of a guide picture.
The puzzle comes in a colorful cardboard box with a hinged lid that closes by magnetic strip. Included is a poster size guide picture with some information on Dreamton's line of puzzles on the back.
Thanks to Jackie for alerting me to this maker.
