tuck jazz
Sunset by the sea, ca. 1930. 150 plywood pieces, 21 x 28¾ cm. Push fit, random cut with jagged edges throughout, and three large multi-piece figurals. Tuck's "Jazz" Picture Puzzle, made by Raphael Tuck & Sons, England.
Painting of a windswept steep-rising cliff beaten by the ocean with birds perched on a landing and hovering about, and the sun setting on the right coloring the scenery orange and pink. Artist unknown.
With their jagged edges and multi-piece figurals, the Jazz jigsaws featured a unique cutting style. They came in an attractive box with a small black and white example picture pasted on. According to Geert Bekkering's Tuck puzzle history site, this series was announced in a 1930 brochure. Items are apparently quite rare.
