Colțea Clinical Hospital

Spitalul Colțea is a hospital in the 3rd sector of the city of Bucharest. It housed one of the first medical schools in Romania.

Colțea Hospital was opened on 14 December 1704 as the first hospital in Bucharest. Adjacent to the hospital was the Colțea Monastery , which was built between 1695 and 1697 and whose monastery church still exists today. Originally, the hospital had 24 beds. Other buildings were added to the hospital, such as the medical school, an inn and several warehouses for medicinal plants, before a wall was built around the entire health complex in 1719 to protect it from raids. After the earthquake in 1802, the building was rebuilt between 1836 and 1842, but due to further earthquakes, it was demolished again in 1887 to make way for the current Colțea Palace , which still serves as a hospital today.
