The Ranchu
From 26cm x 26cm kami
It's the Lunar New Year week, and one feels somewhat in a festive mood. Have been meaning to fold Ronald Koh's lovely origami Ranchu (goldfish) in CNY colours (apparently they remind one of a pair of mandarin oranges here!)
In the spirit of the season, I added an element of CNY decor via papercut patterns on the body of the goldfish. Realised a tad late that cuts near the fold(s) to curve the body would not be advisable.
"年年有餘" indicates an abundance of 'all good things', plentiful goodness etc. that cannot be exhausted, and the pun is on the last word, which sounds like "fish". Hence, the goldfish. I belabour the point. It was a fun experiment. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did folding the model. :)
