Long shadows across the shade garden . . .
Early evening is such a lovely time in the back garden. March has been a beautiful month . . . the garden is grateful for the unusually heavy rain we've had (which doesn't begin to make up the diminished lake levels) and temperatures have been quite warm with many days in the 80s F. (between 26 and 29 C.). The daffodils and tulips have died, leaving floppy foliage. The early azaleas are beginning to wither but there are still some later blooming varieties. Most of the pansies have either perished in the heat or been eaten by the pill bugs. The pretty, double ranunculus has just about gone on strike -- the few remaining blooms are small and kind of pathetic looking. But the impatiens have yet to come into their full glory and beyond the shade garden, the roses are looking happy and the tropical hibiscus have begun blooming.
