Cherokee man in Traditional Cherokee clothes, Cherokee village, Cherokee, North Carolina
While we were in the Cherokee village in Cherokee North Carolina, we met this man who was wearing traditional Cherokee clothes and moccasins. We asked him about them and he said they were just his clothes. When the government tried to send all Cherokees to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears, one band hid out in the mountains in western North Carolina and refused to be driven out of their land. Eventually they were granted their own reservation which now exists in Cherokee, North Carolina.
