Water Spout at Key West, Florida: A Tornado over water in the Gulf of Mexico
This water spout was on the Gulf side of Key West, a few miles north of town. While there were some clouds, there were nothing like the clouds you'd see in Texas when you have a tornado. SInce this was above and down into the water, it is called a water spout. If it had come onto the land, it would have been called a tornado. We were amazed that there were several boats that seemed to be very near the water spout, although they left shortly after we noticed it as we passed by. If it had hit one of these boats, it would have probably killed someone.
