The Lost World

Shot taken at twilight before sunrise, in the vast area where are located the north faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen), Dolomites.

The sun had not yet risen from the east, but its imminent presence definitely began to be felt in the air. The atmosphere was still partially obscured by the clouds present throughout the night... somehow seemed determined to prevent the definitive arrival of the sunlight.

As I will show in a photo taken later, the moon was now above the three peaks, slightly to the right, veiled, anyway providing a faint extra lighting to this unique setting.

I decided to don't include the moon in this frame because I do not particularly like pictures with too many elements. It's of course a matter of personal taste.

Here sunlight begins barely to touch the top of the Western Peak and mount Cristallo, I've subsequently photographed the classic three curtain of light but under a much higher sun... so everything worked out in a totally different composition.

Instead, the sole goal of this shot was to fix the oppressive otherworldly atmosphere, something I really didn't want to miss.
