A Light in the Night
This is the Giacoletti hut (2.741 m) portrayed at night. Monviso area, Italy.
Having taken this photo at the end of October the shelter was closed. Fortunately was available the "winter room", as it happens in most of the alpine huts. No heating facilities inside. A small room with beds, blankets and a table... definitely a luxury for those who love to spend the night in the mountains. Better than a tent of course.
For this shot I left lit two candles, just to give a touch of light from inside. In addition there is also a delicate light painting with my torch from outside, during the long exposure, otherwise the structure would have been little discernible in darkness.
In the night sky is visible part of the Milky Way, which at the beginning of the autumn nights cuts the sky from east to west, whereas in summer from north to south.
Here it is aligned with Punta Udine (3.022 m), then the ridge goes down to the right until Coulour del Porco (2.920 m) then up again till to Punta Venezia (3.095 m).
I've taken a vertical shot as well, just to give more space to the Milky Way, I hope to remember to post it sooner or later.
