Comments always appreciated, as long as you keep it clean - I love to hear your feedback! xx
Time for my final visit to the Newsam centre for speech therapy.
It's far from the end of my speech work but I am quite pleased with my progress so far, and so was the therapist. I can maintain a reasonable voice level but for the time being, if I stop concentrating on doing it, I automatically slip back to my old voice.
This is where the time and effort come in. It takes a long long time to overwrite the neural pathways and change the natural sound of my voice. But I am ok with that.
A large part of the voice training is adjusting my own expectations, accepting that I am not likely to attain a speaking voice that is indistinguishable from a female voice. Especially on the telephone, without visual clues to help, people are likely to misgender me from time to time, but I am ok with that.
I am not pretending to be a cis woman. I am proud to be a visible trans woman. So occasionally being misgendered due to my voice is of no great concern to me.
