86035 at Lichfield Trent Valley

To the north of the station used to be the remains of a cattle dock complete with vertical bullhead rails used as posts, with holes for the pole runners. It was occasionally used to stable tampers or the odd Grampus.

With the upgrade of the WCML it was filled in to house a new power booster and to facilitate the extension of the adjacent station platform. Traffic levels today wouldn’t permit a fast line path for a slow running mineral train as seen through one of the holes either! 1/6/84
