Lab 25 Decapod at Derby
Converted from a former freightliner flat and fitted with low track force bogies, Lab 25 was named Decapod due to having 10 wheels. The centre set was a retractable load measurement wheelset that enabled sideways force and other wheel-rail interface parameters to be monitored. Here it is seen at Derby during a loco run round, probably en route to the Mickleover Test Track.
The following year, aged 16, I spent an afternoon on this, trundling up and down the Mickleover Test Track, complete with pushbike stowed on board. August 1985.
