58019 at Branston Jn

58 019 derailed at Branston Jct. a photo that I had published in the March 1987 edition of Railway Magazine.

In November 1986 my school was a short distance from Branston Jn and the house I grew up in backed onto the Leicester - Burton freight line. I remember arriving home and seeing 58019 rattle past on an MGR train followed shortly afterwards by a cacophony of emergency vehicle sirens. A cycle ride out confirmed that this train had derailed foul of the main Derby- Birmingham line and had been struck a glancing blow by a passing train, knocking off one of its buffers. With the risk of fire high on their minds, fire crews quickly doused the loco in foam. These shots were taken from an adjacent field later that same evening. 20/11/86
