Clancy

With super heavy hearts we put down our wonderful little man yesterday. He was just shy of his 16th birthday and was dealing with multiple issues, including a tumour, cataracts, and signs of dementia.

When we got him in 2008 he was 6 months old and we were his third home, not counting his birth home. The first thing we did, when we got him home was give him a bath, as his owner had bathed him in aftershave, and told us the ladies loved it. Things got off to a rocky start, as he often got up and left the room when we arrived, sometimes stopping to pee on the wall before leaving. I told Tracie, I was not sure if this was going to work out, but months later we were best buddies and have been ever since.

Clancy came when you called him........ sometimes... and we often thought he was half cat. He was a dog of many names. It was “Clanderson Gunderson” for a while. Years ago it was “Rodent Faced - White Bellied - Stinky Breath - Basement Pisser”, as he and his brother often preferred to use the concrete floor in the basement if the weather was bad. I loved to call him “Lumperdumps”. The best one was “Doufus McTroublelump the 3rd”. Tracie had a dog tag made up with that name on it for my birthday. Shortly after, I had Clancy at the Vet for a check up and the Vet started laughing out loud when he noticed the tag.

Some time ago we had a group over and were sitting in the yard. Appetizers were on plates sitting on a plywood top over our firepit, so they were right at Clancy’s eye level. He was super interested but we kept telling him no. At some point someone said something hilarious and we all started laughing. Clanc seized the moment and grabbed one of the appetizers and sped up the hill to the back of the yard. A perfectly timed heist...........

I have spent hours and hours and walked miles and miles with this little guy, and after retirement, became a big fan of the 20 minute afternoon nap. Clancy would jump up on the bed and snooze beside me, often with his head on my shoulder. Best feeling ever.......

Rest in peace little man - we miss you tons
