Brickverse Sinister Six
Here we go again, my third version of the Sinister Six (fourth of you count the first custom versions I made of them years ago).
In my previous Spider-Man series’ I’ve always tried to make the characters as comic accurate as possible where I can, but that’s mainly because their classic designs are my favourite. With that I felt it was time to switch things up and fully do my own takes on these characters, again they aren’t my ideal designs, those will always be their classic looks, but these are some alternatives that I’m more than happy with.
Granted I still pulled from a lot of pre-existing designs, but I still consider these largely my own takes.
From L to R:
Mysterio: mainly reuse of the most recent MCU minifig (which is amazing) just with some changes to the cape. I never liked how pink the official version was, and I also felt the addition of the shoulder piece made for a more otherworldly look. Whilst a lot of Spider-Man villains are too goofy looking to be properly translated into live-action, I’m glad they didn’t change up Mysterio too much, seeing as he’s the only one who’s design was always meant to be goofy.
Kraven: at first I thought of doing my own original lineup for this team since I couldn’t think of how to redesign Kraven, but I ended up really happy with this version. Whilst not originally intentional, I feel this design conveys his costume being built for both hot and cold environments.
Doc Ock: like Mysterio it was hard to come up with a good redesign that didn’t stray away from the iconic look of the character, so I simply made a few adjustments to the PS4 inspired minifig. I did actually want to give him the baggy purple clothes look that he had in his earlier appearances, but there wasn’t any good parts options for that.
Electro: he was what started off this post since both he and Rhino are two characters that I’ve never been fully happy with my purist attempts at their classic designs, he stuck out like a sore thumb against the classic looks for the rest of the team that all have official versions. He’s a blend of MCU and PS4 designs, but I wanted more contrasting colours and I’ve always liked how the black and yellow with just touches of green looks, plus there’s already enough villains with predominantly green designs. I would've given him a mask but again, not really any good purist options out there.
The Vulture: like Electro he’s very much inspired by his MCU/PS4 designs, with the idea being he’s wearing a green aviator suit with various straps and equipment over it, with his torso being part of the flight gear. I really like how the colour scheme turned out on this, since I wanted it somewhat ‘realistic’ with more toned down colours than some of the other characters. It was the challenge making the wings since I wanted them to have a more consistent design than my previous attempts at the MCU version, and I’m pretty happy with the result. I also added ski pieces to the back of his legs to represent the clawed feet feature we saw with the MCU version.
The Sandman: pretty basic but like others in this lineup, it’s hard to come up with an ‘original’ design for him. I did attempt a design where he had a power dampening collar but it didn’t work out. I really like the Ultimate version where he struggles to control his powers, and when he’s using them his body just keeps producing sand, that I find a really unique idea and I tried to portray here.
I’m not done with these minifigs, I’ve got my own spins on their backstories lined up.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
