Most will still see a small twig here even after the fourth or fifth look.
But the twig that stretches across the center of the picture from right to left is the Swallow-tailed Moth caterpillar, which mimics a piece of wood deceptively.
Even the back legs on the right, with which she holds on, melt into the ground.
It also has a small extension on its back that looks like a branch has broken off. On the side is another knob that resembles a branch knot.
The front feet of the head can only be seen on the left front.
I find this deception almost perfect.
Die meisten werden hier auch nach dem vierten oder fünften mal hinschauen immer noch einen kleinen Zweig sehen.
Aber das Ästchen, dass sich quer durch die Bildmitte von rechts nach links erstreckt ist die Spannerraupe vom Nachtschwalbenschwanz, die täuschend echt ein Stück Holz nachahmt.
Selbst die hinteren Beine rechts, mit denen sie sich festhält, verschmelzen mit dem Untergrund.
Dazu hat sie auf dem Rücken einen kleinen Fortsatz, der aussieht, als wäre da ein Zweig abgebrochen. An der Seite ist noch ein Knubbel, der einem Astknoten ähnelt.
Nur links vorne kann man beim Kopf die Vorderfüße sehen.
Ich finde diese Täuschung fast perfekt.
